Transitioning to electronic locks would have incurred significant equipment costs, so we sought a method to leverage existing physical keys while keeping costs down.
After implementation, we installed smart key boxes at the entrance. A unique PIN is automatically issued for each reservation, allowing guests to enter the code upon arrival, retrieve their key, and gain access. The PIN is valid only for the duration of the stay and automatically changes for the next guest, ensuring security.
As a result, the initial investment was reduced to about one-third of the cost of electronic locks, enabling low-cost unmanned operation.
Furthermore, since physical keys are still used, flexible responses are possible during emergencies or equipment maintenance, earning high praise from facility owners.
